MS Treendale Facility Now Open

The Bunbury community has warmly embraced the completion of the South West’s first high-support accommodation and respite facility for young adults disabled by multiple sclerosis and similar neurological conditions.

This project was enthusiastically supported by John Castrilli MLA, a generous donation from the South Bunbury Rotary Club, other local organisations and a grant from the WA Department of Health to purchase the land.   The Multiple Sclerosis Society of WA has funded the construction of the complex.

Our Treendale facility is a modern complex of 11 purpose built, one bedroom, high-support accommodation units where young people with disabilities due to MS or other neurological conditions can receive 24 hour care. This type of accommodation was previously only available in Perth or at an aged care facility. The model provides residents with a true sense of home, with the additional reassurance of 24 hour on-site support and security

The 6 bed respite house and 3 bedroom family respite unit have communal living and dining areas and courtyards and are co-located on site. Multiple Sclerosis Society Chief Executive Officer Marcus Stafford explained our rationale behind the design, “We believe that your home should be a sanctuary and not an institution – that’s why we were determined to create an environment that was as personal and as comfortable as a much-loved family home”.

Some residents have already moved in and have given the thumbs up to their new home. Respite clients have also provided some very positive feedback. Treendale resident Sheila said it was, “A 5 star experience and I will definitely be going back.”

Eligibility criteria apply and residents require individual funding to cover care and support.

The official opening of the Treendale facility will be Friday, June 8th 2012.

All enquiries regarding accommodation and respite vacancies should be directed to Linda Kidd, Manager Treendale on 9725 9209 or email Linda.Kidd@mswa.org.au
